SEALING POWER reference
Throughout the 1990's, Whitby & Chandler Limited became firmly established as a leading supplier of gaskets and rubber mouldings into the Transformer & Switchgear Industries. The scale of this success can be measured from the information within this website, which not only gives details of the types of materials available from WCL, but also provides an impressive list of some of the major players within the 'Sealing Power' sector who have approved, and converted to, WCL products. A key factor in this advance has been WCL's partnership with Amorim Industrial Solutions, the world's largest producer of cork products.

Their ability to blend a wide range of rubber compounds with the natural properties of cork has enabled AIS to manufacture sheet materials that are suitable for many applications, e.g. in:

• Transformer Oil
• Silicone and Flame Retardant Oils
• SF6 Gas

to name but a few.

Additional benefits include CorkRubbers for use in:

Kerosene Vapour Phase applications
Temperatures as high as 200°C and as low as -60°C
Electrical insulation to the standards of BS921

WCL, as a company, is registered to both ISO9001 and ISO14001, and has an even wider portfolio of products at its diposal. For the industry in question, there is a host of 'soft cut'gasket materials available, including; rubber, cork, sponge, paper and PTFE - in fact, anything that can be described as a 'gasket' or 'seal'. To complement these products, in-house rubber moulding facilities provide all of the familiar polymers such as Nitrile, Neoprene, EPDM, Viton and Silicone, as well as many others that are tailored to meet the requirements of an individual customer or industry, e.g. BS2751 Nitrile, (or EPDM), for SF6 Gas; Non-Conductive Nitrile; Fluorosilicone for oils and SF6, and temperatures below -50
°C, etc.

WCL has a Sales Force to cover the whole of the UK, and regularly visits or contacts many overseas customers to give the attention and technical support that is necessary to provide the type of service that this industry demands. Where required, it is supported by AIS, whose laboratories and engineering personnel in Portugal are at the disposal of WCL and it's customers.

Since the launch of the Sealing Power brochure, Whitby & Chandler has been working closely with it's partner, Amorim Industrial Solutions, to introduce new materials that meet the demands of:

Transformer Industries
Switchgear Industries
Electrical Industries

SG700
A Silicone Cork suitable for use with all Transformer Oils covering operating temperatures of -60°C to +200°C.
A moderately compressible material, excellent for extreme temperature applications.

NI171

A Premier Grade Nitrile Cork most suitable for Kerosene Vapour Phase drying applications covering operating temperatures up to 135°C.
A top quality material providing maximum oil and solvent resistance.

1049

An Economy Grade Nitrile Cork suitable for Vapour Phase conditions. A firm material suitable for high to medium bolt pressure with excellent flexibility and resilience.
The physical characteristics of this material, along with excellent fuel, solvent and oil resistance, makes it ideal for Automotive, Industrial and Transformer gaskets.

EL-00

A Cork/Rubber Electrical Insulation Mat meeting BS921 requirements and offering excellent slip resistance, and lighter weight than conventional rubber.

Hard-copies of the Sealing Power brochure as well as Specification Sheets for, and samples of, individual materials, are readily available.
