RUBBER MOULDINGS

Whitby & Chandler has developed a wide range of rubber compounds which are specifically formulated for use in transformer and switchgear applications.

NITRILE

This is available in shore hardnesses from 40° to 90° and can be supplied in the form of mouldings, extrusions, or press-cut gaskets. Nitrile compounds are designed to seal successfully in mineral oil applications at temperatures of up to 120°C . Typical applications will include cover gaskets, handhole gaskets, bushing washers, and also extruded 'O' ring cord for cover gaskets which seal in a machined groove and welded specification.

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Deine Monomer)

WCL manufactures components in several electrical grade EPDM compounds, ranging from a black commercial EPDM for relatively low specification application, to our Peroxide-cured EPDM which has been specifically formulated for use with SF6 gas (sulphur hexaflouride). This compound is available in either grey or translucent violet colours and can be supplied in a full range of hardness's.

SILICONE

The recent emergency of Silicone Polymers for switchgear applications has meant that both SF6 and mineral oils can be successfully sealed in temperatures of - 50°C to 200°C+. Silicone is a particularly good perfomer in low-Temperature applications.

For advice on the selection of the correct polymer for your application, please contact our technical staff at anytime.
It is the policy of all WCL's manufacturing divisions that small batches should be easily available to our customers, if required. In this way, WCL can offer one-offs for evaluation purposes, small production batches, and large production runs of up to one million and beyond.
